Health Benefits of Having a Cat

October 1 2018

Cats certainly do brighten up our lives. Our adorable feline friends have a special way of making houses into homes! Fluffy is both cute and entertaining, and can make us smile just by being her charming self. She’s also good for us! There are actually some great benefits to having a cat for a pet. A local Cherry Hill, NJ vet lists a few of them below.

Fewer Strokes

Fluffy can actually reduce your risk of stroke by up to 40%. This may be because kitties are just naturally very soothing.

Less Stress

Our feline friends are great at helping us cope with stress and anxiety. Fluffy is a great cuddler! A purring cat can be a great comfort in troubled times. In fact, there are now official therapy cats. These special kitties help people who are struggling with depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s, and autism.

Improved Healing Time

Did you know that cat purrs actually have some very special qualities? Fluffy’s engine runs at frequencies between 25 and 150 Hertz. These frequencies have been shown to promote healing and improve bone density. In fact, they are often used in physical therapy!

Live Entertainment

Kitties have many charms, but one of our favorites is the fact that they are often absolutely hilarious to watch. It’s hard not to giggle when watching a frisky feline pouncing on a catnip toy or chasing that little red dot. Just spending a few minutes with Fluffy can lift your spirits and put a smile on your face. As the saying says, laughter is the best medicine.

Benefits for Children

Some studies show that kids who are raised around pets have higher immune systems than those who weren’t. As it turns out, all that fur, dust, and dander may actually be helpful at building kids’ immunity. Children with pets are also less likely to become allergic to animals.

Built-In Sleep Aid

Though Fluffy isn’t officially certified as a sleep aid, she can help people who are suffering from insomnia fall asleep. Let your feline buddy sleep on your lap. You can also try letting Fluffy snuggle up to you at night. Cuddling up with a purring cat can be pretty relaxing!
