Fido’s Pet Peeves

January 15 2020

Dogs are all very unique, fun, and interesting characters. While all of our canine pals are different, they do have some common likes and dislikes. We all know that Fido is very fond of bacon, belly rubs, and walks, but what are the things he doesn’t like? A Cherry Hill, NJ vet lists a few key ones below.

Hugs From Strangers

Dogs are very affectionate, and many of them like cuddling with their owners. However, you should avoid hugging strange dogs. Although we consider hugs to be a sign of affection, in doggy language, they are actually a sign of dominance.

Boredom

Man’s Best Friend is both intelligent and curious. Fido needs lots of entertainment and stimulation to be happy. Make sure your pooch has lots of toys, and take time to play with him every day. This will be good for both of you!

Being Lonely

Our canine companions are very social, and they are definitely happier living with their ‘packs.’ Spend lots of time with Fido, and pay attention to him every day. If your furry pal stays home alone a lot, consider hiring a dogwalker. If your pooch likes other dogs, and your household and budget have room, you may even want to get your pup a playmate!

Baths

No surprises here! Although dogs seem to enjoy feeling clean and fresh, they really aren’t particularly fond of the process of getting clean. Make sure not to bathe your pooch more than necessary.

Cats

Although dogs and cats can, in some cases, become best buddies, this isn’t always the case. Fluffy has a habit of stealing Fido’s bed, and has been known to pounce on his tail!

Crowds

While it’s good for Fido to spend time with other dogs, that doesn’t mean he will be comfortable in a huge crowd of pups. Some dogs are more comfortable with just a few playmates. Your pet may get stressed out if there are too many dogs at his favorite park!

Being Teased

Dogs don’t exactly have a sense of humor, so they don’t find getting teased very amusing. Children often do this, without realizing the implications or dangers. They may pull Fido’s tail, or take his toy. That will definitely irk your canine buddy!
