8 Things to Do With Your Dog This Summer

July 15 2016

Summer is just around the corner! As you plan some fun summer activities, don’t forget about your canine buddy. Fido also enjoys having some fun in the sun! In this article, a Cherry Hill, NJ vet lists some things to do with your dog this summer.

Splish Splash

Get a kiddie pool, and fill it with water. If it’s really hot outside, add a few ice cubes. Then, toss in a few toys for Fido to play with. Or, indulge your pooch in a fun game of fetch with the sprinkler on.

Puppy Party

Invite some friends and family members with polite, gentle dogs over for a puppy play date. Have a pot-luck for your human guests, and offer Fido and his friends toys, treats, and belly rubs. Look online for great ideas for homemade doggy treats.

Doggy Park

Fido loves exploring new places! Take your furry pal to a new dog park, or check out a new trail. Just be sure to do your research in advance: you’ll need to find out about fees and access procedures, as well as park regulations. Look for parks that have separate fenced areas for big dogs and little dogs.

Doggy Café

Look for a local dog-friendly café. Bring a book for yourself, and order a yummy snack for your canine buddy. This is a great way to socialize puppies!

Frozen Treats

Who doesn’t love ice cream on a hot day? You can buy doggy ice cream in stores, or make your own out of plain yogurt, peanut butter, and ripe bananas.

Does Fido know basic doggy obedience commands, like Sit , Stay , Come , Heel , and Lay Down ? If not, work on these basics. If he does, teach your furry pal some cute tricks! You can go with classics like Roll Over or Shake , or try something new, like Gimme Five or Hide Your Eyes .

Summer is a great time to just have some fun with your pet. Experiment with creating doggy versions of classic childhood games, like Hide and Seek, Tag, and Simon Says.

Take advantage of summer’s golden light to get some great photos of your pooch, and capture some of those adorable tail wags and head tilts.
