5 Cute Ways to Entertain Your Cat

April 1 2017

If you have a cat, you have probably notices our feline friends just love to relax and lounge about. However, even though kitties seem to enjoy doing absolutely nothing, they can get bored. Here, a Cherry Hill, NJ vet lists some cute ways to keep your furry pal entertained.

Catio

Do you have a spare room or a sunroom? Make it into a catio! Start by adding some pet furniture, like a kitty tower or catwalk. Next, set out some pet-safe plants, so Fluffy can peek at you from behind green leaves and pretend she is a ferocious hunter. (You can find a list of safe plants online at the ASPCA website.) For a finishing touch, offer your furball some comfy beds and perhaps a kitty fountain. You get bonus purrs for sunbeams.

Pet Furniture

As far as Fluffy is concerned, your furniture is her furniture. However, cats really do enjoy having things made just for them. Pet towers, for instance, give your feline pal a scratching post, a napping spot, a jungle gym, and an elevated vantage point, so she can look down at you with that adorable judgmental stare kitties do.

Playtime!

Just taking a few minutes a day to play with your cat will help keep her entertained and content. Dangle a feather toy in front of Fluffy, or holding a laser pointer so she can chase that little red dot. Regular play sessions are also great for kitties physically!

Window Seat

In the wild, Fluffy would likely spend a good chunk of her day trying to catch her dinner. Your housecat may only have to stalk catnip mice, and she may have you trained to feed her on command, but she’ll still enjoy spying on local wildlife. Give your feline buddy a comfy window seat, so she can sunbathe, snooze, and birdwatch.

Buddies

The only thing cuter than one cat may very well be two cats! Getting Fluffy a friend may be a wonderful—and adorable—way to keep her amused. Just be sure to think things through first. Adopting a pet is a lifelong commitment! You also need to consider the purrsonality of both kitties: not all felines enjoy having furry roommates. Ask your vet for recommendations.
