August 10th is Spoil Your Dog Day! Of course, if we were to ask Fido, he’d probably insist that every day should be Spoil Your Dog Day… and he wouldn’t be wrong! However, this is a great time to score some extra tail wags. A Cherry Hill, NJ vet offers some professional doggy-spoiling tips below.
Automated Ball Launcher
Is Fetch your pet’s favorite game ever? Fido may love playing with an automated ball launcher. (Note: we don’t recommend these for large breeds, because the balls could be choking hazards for big pooches.)
Frozen Treats
Who doesn’t enjoy a cold treat on a sweltering hot day? Pick up some doggy ice cream for your furry BFF. Or, put some peanut butter, sodium-free broth, or organic baby food in a Kong toy, and freeze it before offering it to him.
Adventures!
Dogs love exploring new places and conquering new patches of grass. Bring Fido to a doggy park, or try a new trail with him. Just be sure to put your pup’s safety first. Bring lots of water along, and make sure your canine pal is microchipped, wearing ID tags, and current on his vaccinations and parasite control.
Yummy Food
Take your furry buddy to a dog-friendly restaurant or café, and treat him to a yummy snack. If your pooch doesn’t care for eating out, indulge him with a plain burger from a local drive-thru or take-out restaurant. Fido can also enjoy his favorite store-bought treats, or some plain meat, chicken, or fish with the bones, skin, and fat removed.
Puppy Massage
Many of our canine friends really enjoy a relaxing massage. Pamper your pooch by getting him a great doggy massage.
Doggy Play Zone
Do you have a yard for your pooch to play in? If so, that’s great! Why not spruce up your furry friend’s outdoor area a bit? A doghouse would definitely get that tail wagging. Fido may also appreciate a sandbox to bury toys and treats in.
Splashing Fun
Many pups love to cool off on hot days by taking a dip. (Note: safety first! If you go to a pool or beach, keep a close eye on your dog!) Fido may also love playing in a kiddie pool or the water from a sprinkler.
