September is Happy Healthy Cat Month! We think kitties always deserve to be happy and healthy, of course. But what does it take to keep Fluffy purring? In this article, a Cherry Hill, NJ vet discusses how to keep your cat content.
Beds, Beds, and More Beds
It’s no secret that cats take their beauty rest very, very seriously. In fact, these sleepy little furballs can spend up to 20 hours a day snoozing! Make sure your kitty has lots of comfy napping spots to snuggle up in.
Good Food
Proper nourishment will go a long way towards keeping your furry pal in good health. Ask your vet for specific recommendations, including serving sizes and suitable snacks. Treats are fine, but don’t go overboard with fatty snacks.
Purrniture
Offer your feline friend some things she won’t have to share with her humans. Cat towers are great! Fluffy also approves of kitty hammocks, pet tents and tipis, wall-mounted furniture, and, of course, cardboard boxes.
Scratching Post
Kitties have a strong need to scratch. Make sure Fluffy has a good scratching post or cat tower, so she can do her nails.
Veterinary Care
While visiting us isn’t Fluffy’s favorite thing to do, she will feel and look better if she sees the vet regularly. Follow your vet’s recommended appointment schedule.
Toys
Cats are predators by nature, and they are instinctively driven to jump and pounce on things. Offer Fluffy lots of fun toys to smack around, and take time to hold a feather toy or laser pointer for her. Your furball will know you’re making an effort to make her happy, and will repay your kindness with kitty kisses and snuggles.
Playtime
Take time to play with your feline buddy regularly. This is a super cute way to relax at the end of the day. Plus, it will be fun for both you and Fluffy.
Cuddles
Many cats are expert cuddlers, who love to snuggle up on their humans’ laps or curl up beside them in bed. Kitties are always happiest when they feel loved and safe. Letting your cat snooze on you is a great way to keep Fluffy’s motor running. It will be good for you, too!
