September is Happy Cat Month! Kitties are always cute, but they do manage to be extra adorable when they are clearly feeling relaxed and content. What does it take to bring on the purr, and put that smug look on Fluffy’s face? A local Haddon Township, NJ vet offers some suggestions below.
Kitty Garden
Set out some pet-safe plants for Fluffy to nibble on. Kitties love peeking out at their owners from behind green leaves! If you have a patio, sun room, or spare room, make it a catio by adding cat furniture and lots of nontoxic plants. You can find a full list online at the ASPCA website here.
Window Seats
Kitties are always better off as indoor pets, where they are protected from cars, weather, wild animals, and other dangers. However, Fluffy does enjoy watching birds and squirrels. Make sure your furry little voyeur has access to at least one comfy window seat. If you have blinds in your cat’s favorite spot, you may want to get drapes instead, as otherwise your furball may try to climb through. This will likely result in ruined blinds. There’s also a chance she could get stuck and entangled, which would be quite dangerous.
Napping Spots
Cats are always looking for their next napping spots. Pet beds are of course purrfect, but Fluffy also likes snuggling up in armchairs, on sofas and ottomans, and anywhere that looks comfortable. Make sure your drowsy little buddy has lots of options to pick from for those 37 daily naps.
Daily Playtime
Playing lets Fluffy indulge her inner lioness. It’s also a great way to make her feel loved! When you take time to hold a laser pointer for your feline friend to chase, she’ll understand that you’re doing something for her. That’s a great way to activate the purr!
Boxes
One of Fluffy’s cuter quirks is her box obsession. Offer her new boxes on occasion. If you want to go all-out, build her a box castle. That can make a great kids’ project!
TLC
At the end of the day, the best way to pamper Fluffy is to just pay attention to her! Conversations and cuddles will go a long way towards making your cat feel happy and safe.
