Pet Gift Ideas

November 1 2024

Season’s Greetings! Are you still preparing your shopping list? We’re confident that many of our furry, feathery, and scaled companions have made it onto Santa’s naughty and nice lists this year. Pets, of course, have a way of appearing adorable and cuddly even when they aren’t acting like little angels. Don’t forget to get something for your little (or not-so-small) buddy! Continue reading for some ‘pawesome’ Christmas gift ideas from a local Cherry Hill, NJ veterinarian.

Holiday Gifts for Kitties

Fluffy is generally easy to shop for. In fact, you might find that your pet ignores that pricey new smart toy and instead entertains herself by batting a crumpled-up ball of wrapping paper around. That being said, there are plenty of charming gifts you can acquire for your feline ruler.

Cat towers are usually popular with kitties. It’s not hard to see why: they serve multiple functions for Fluffy. They essentially serve as substitutes for trees. Kitties use trees not only to sharpen their nails, but also to avoid predators and find shelter. Trees also serve as excellent lookout points for cats. Fluffy, of course, also uses them as napping spots.

While purchasing a cat tower isn’t difficult, there are a few factors to consider. Your pet’s age is a huge factor. A kitten would most likely love something with lots of entertaining elements, such as ladders and dangling feather toys, whilst a senior cat may prefer something with lots of nice napping spaces that is easy to get on and off. If you have several cats, choose something that they can all fit on at once. If your pet is skittish, she will probably choose something with an enclosed space. If you’re continually removing Fluffy from your bookcase or attempting to entice her down from the top of your fridge, get something tall for her.

If your cat has a tendency to assault or climb your Christmas tree, give her this present early. Even better, sprinkle some catnip on it! “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!”

Beds

Beds are generally a safe bet for a kitten. Cats are nothing if not sleepy! It doesn’t matter if Fluffy already has one. Or two. Or ten. Cats are constantly on the lookout for suitable napping areas! You don’t have to spend a lot of money on these; there are plenty of DIY projects available!

Catnip

Catnip is, of course, the traditional cat gift. You may now give your pet’s favorite plant in a variety of forms. Dried is the norm, but Fluffy may also love catnip sprays or bubbles!

Toys

While Fluffy’s passion for the original catnip mouse remains, toys have evolved significantly. You may acquire your cat a variety of entertaining new toys, including remote-controlled toys, smart toys, and automated options.

Fountains

Did you know that many cats love to drink rushing water? Give Fluffy a pet fountain!

Holiday Gifts for Dogs

Fido’s unbounded excitement for, well, everything makes him an extremely entertaining and lovable pet. It doesn’t take much to get that tail wagging, but going the additional mile to make your dog’s day will be well worth it. It’s always adorable to see dogs getting super happy about new gifts!

Toys

Pick Fido’s playthings according to his personality, size, breed, and age. Age and size are the most important considerations. Puppies need lots of chew toys and things that will keep them active, occupied, and (hopefully) out of mischief. Once your pet is an adult, entertainment and activity take precedence. Look for things like balls, rope toys, and other playthings that keep your pooch active. Senior dogs have different needs. They often prefer things that are soft on their mouths. Fido may also like something that makes noise or lights up, which will be easier for him to track.

Beds

Dogs of any age will appreciate a good bed, of course. Orthopedic beds are a ‘pawesome choice for large dogs and seniors.

Smart Toys

Does Fido love chasing tennis balls? If so, an automated ball launcher would be a perfect gift for your canine buddy. You will want to be careful to get something that is the right size.

As for stocking stuffers, well, treats are going to be at the top of the list there! Store-bought treats are great, but you can also make your own. Just stick with recipes that use ingredients you know are safe. Grooming supplies are another good bet. YOu may also want to consider getting Fido smart tags or even GPS tags.

New Digs

Toys and treats aren’t the only available options for Fido. If you have a yard for your canine pal to run and play in, you can consider getting him a doghouse! While we always suggest that pets live indoors with their humans, dogs do enjoy having a spot to hang out outside.

If Fido doesn’t have a carrier, this can also be a great option. Even if you don’t plan to use it daily, it’s important for your pet to be accustomed to his crate and to be comfortable in it. YOu want Fido to see his crate as a comfy little den, not a jail cell!

Pupscription Boxes

If you want to keep that cute tail going all year long, consider getting Firo a subscription box. Every month, your pooch will get a box of goodies in the mail. This only gets cuter over time, as once your pet realizes that the packages are for him he’ll just continue to get more and more excited every time he sees it.

Holiday Gifts For Birds

Don’t forget about Polly! Perches and toys are the gold standard here. However, there are hundreds of items to choose from. You may also want to get your feathered pal a new cage! Perches and swings are also great options for our feathered buddies.

Gifts For Pocket Pets

Many smaller animals need to chew quite a bit to prevent painful dental issues. You can make many of these using regular household items, such as wood, wicker and paper. There are some caveats, though. For one thing, never offer anything with sharp edges, small parts, or dangling threads or cords.

Gifts For Exotics

Do you have a reptile, or perhaps an exotic, such as a sugar glider? These unique pets also have special care needs, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do something extra for them. A yummy treat may be a good option, but you may also want to perhaps get a hidey hole.

Of course, this is also a big time of year for many charities. That applies to animal causes as well. Consider making a donation to a charity or shelter of your choice.
