Toys
Offer your four-legged friend plenty of fun toys to play with while you are out. Be sure to choose toys that are appropriate for your dog’s size. You’ll also want to inspect Fido’s toys regularly, and discard anything that looks worn.
Puppyproofing
Our canine buddies have a curious streak. They also really, really, really love food. Put these things together, and you have a pet who likes to investigate things by, well, eating them. This can be very dangerous! Do some basic puppyproofing to make sure that your home is safe for your dog. Remove, protect, or secure toxic plants; household chemicals; ropes and cords; medications; and plastic bags, wrappers, and ties. Comfort
Make sure your pooch has plenty of food and water, and a comfy bed. A good window view won’t hurt, either. If you won’t be home before nightfall, leave a light on, so Fido isn’t left alone in a dark house. It’s also a good idea to keep a radio or TV on: the sound of music and voices can help keep your faithful friend from feeling lonely. Keep your home at a comfortable temperature while you’re out.
Exercise
Take Fido for a vigorous walk before you leave, and if you can, indulge him with a fun round of fetch. That morning exercise will burn off some of your furry friend’s excess energy, so that afterwards, he’ll be calmer and, hopefully, ready for a nice long nap.

Doggy day care is gaining in popularity, and can be very beneficial. Fido can spend the day running and playing with his friends. When you pick him up, he’ll be tired, and ready for some quiet cuddle time. Just be sure to choose a reputable place. Ask your vet for more information.
