DIY Cat Furniture

June 15 2017
Does your kitty have some pet furniture of her own, things she doesn’t have to share with her human servants? If so, that’s wonderful! Cat furniture is great for our feline friends. However, you don’t have to break your budget to get Fluffy some things of her own. Read on as a Cherry Hill, NJ vet discusses DIY cat furniture.
Beds
There are lots of great options for making Fluffy a cute cat bed. One of the quickest options is to simply put some pillows or soft folded blankets into a box or wicker basket. You can also use a hard-shell suitcase, a hatbox, or a storage tote. Or, get an end table with doors, remove the doors, and put your kitty’s bedding inside. Feel free to add paint, stencils, contact paper, or stickers to make your cat’s bed more attractive.
Cat Tents
Did you know that you can make a cute pet tent out of a tee shirt and some wire hangars? Our feline friends love enclosed places, so this is a quick and easy way to activate the purr. Look online for step-by-step instructions.
Kitty Shelves
Birdwatching is one of Fluffy’s favorite activities. Even if your furry little friend wouldn’t know what to do with an actual mouse or bird, she’ll still enjoy spying on local wildlife. Widen out a windowsill by adding a smooth board to it. You can attach a pet bed to make it extra comfy.
Cat Towers
There are lots of great ways to make cat towers. One option is to repurpose an old stepladder. Add planks to the steps to widen them out, and then wrap the entire thing in carpet or sisal rope. You can also do this with a metal storage rack or an old bookshelf. If you’re skilled with woodworking, you can even make a cat tower from scratch.
Furball Hammock
Hammocks are great for cats in summer. Because air flows beneath them, they are cooler than regular beds. You’ll need a coffee table or end table with four legs, and a piece of material. Just cut the material so that it’s a bit smaller than the tabletop, and then attach the corners to the table legs. Instant purr!
