Apps For Pet Owners

October 15 2023

For many of us, smartphones have become a crucial device: we use them for work, staying connected, watching shows, and entertaining ourselves. Smartphones can also be very helpful—and fun—for pet owners. In this article, a Cherry Hill, NJ vet goes over a few types of apps you may want to download.

Trailfinders

Our canine friends love exploring new places. Taking Fido to a pretty new park or trail is a great way to keep your pup active and provide him with both mental stimulation and quality time with you. BringFido is a great option. Many local trailfinder apps also allow you to find pet-friendly spots to take your pooch. This is also great for finding new one-tank destinations to enjoy with your four-legged buddy.

First Aid

Hopefully this goes without saying, but if your pet is ever injured, you’ll need to get them to the nearest emergency clinic ASAP. However, you may need to perform some first aid before you can transport them. Seconds matter in emergencies, so even the time it takes to download something new may cost precious time. The American Red Cross has a great one. Jive Media also has one for dogs.

Pictures

Does your furry friend have a way of looking absolutely adorable, and then moving as soon as you try to snap a picture? If so, you’re not alone! There are some helpful apps made just for snapping Fido and Fluffy’s photos. These come with settings that can help get cute shots of an active dog running after his ball, or get your kitty’s attention by playing squeaking sounds. Try Youcam perfect or Google’s Dog Photo Editor.

Petsitters

Many of our furry patients stay home alone while their owners go to work. You may also find it helpful just to have someone that can stop in and feed or care for your pets on days when you’re running late. Rover.com is at the top of the list here. Other options include Wag!, Meowtel, and Pawshake. Just be sure to vet your furry pal’s caretaker carefully.

Games

Did you know that you can also download games for Fluffy to play on your phone or tablet? This is a great way to get some extra mileage out of a device you don’t use anymore. Many cats love batting at digital mice or spiders! Try CatAlone, CatFishing, or Cat Games.
