Have you just adopted a baby cat? You might be in for the most adorable holiday celebrations ever! There are few things that will bring love and joy into your life the way a kitten can. Of course, kittens also bring a bit of chaos into your life. Little Fluffy is also very mischievous, and can get into all sorts of trouble! A Haddon Township, NJ vet offers some tips on spending the holidays with kittens below.
Decorations
Safety is a big concern at this time of year. The tree itself is quite hazardous: sharp ornaments, ribbons, tinsel, and ornament hooks are all dangerous to kitties. You’ll also need to be careful with plants. Holly, ivy, mistletoe, and poinsettias are just a few of the seasonal favorites that are toxic to pets. Other potential dangers include candles, garlands, string lights, and anything small or sharp.
Gifts
Don’t forget to pick up a few things for your feline buddy! Some of the things little Fluffy may enjoy finding in her stocking include toys, treats, and catnip. Your feline pal may also appreciate a new bed and/or a scratching post, cat tower, or window seat.
Guests
Are you having guests? Keep a very close eye on your feline friend! Kittens are very small and fragile, and they can get hurt very easily. For instance, they often like to climb under blankets or hide beneath recliners. This puts them in danger of being stepped or sat on. If you’re having a party or dinner, keep little Fluffy in a separate room, with bedding, toys, treats, and a litterbox.
Tree
Your kitten is definitely going to want to play with the tree. This can be cute, but it can also be quite dangerous! Keep your fuzzy bundle of mischief in mind when decorating the tree. Anything sharp, shiny, or dangly should be placed out of paw’s reach. Keep in mind that a real tree’s water can also be toxic, as it may contain trace amounts of things like fertilizer and pesticide.
Cuddles
It’s always nice to relax on a chilly night with a good book or movie, a hot beverage, and, of course, a purring cat. Enjoy some quiet quality time with little Fluffy! Making sure she feels safe and loved will help her bond to you.
Happy Holidays! As your Haddon Township, NJ vet clinic, we’re here for you!
