The History Of The Meow
Have you ever suspected that your cat sometimes manipulates you? If so, you’re absolutely right! In fact, scientists think that the entire reason cats started meowing in the first place was to influence people. Adult kitties rarely talk to one another: instead, they use body language to communicate with each other. They only meow at us, and it’s usually when they want something! One has to admit, Kitty is very good at pleading for supper. Those cajoling meows, the ones that work best, actually sound quite a bit like human babies. Apparently, kitties found this so effective they kept it up!
Breeds
While every kitty is unique, breed certainly plays a huge role in Fluffy’s vocalization patterns and habits. Some kitties, like the Siamese and Tonkinese, are known for being very talkative. Then there’s the Maine Coon, who tends to make very cute chirping sounds. On the other end of the spectrum, the Abyssinian, American Shorthair and Cornish Rex are often quiet kitties.
Conversations With Cats
Do you talk to your cat? One of Fluffy’s most adorable traits is her tendency to reply when spoken to. Here’s a cute game you can play with your kitty while you’re doing things around the house. Say hello, or prompt her to make a sound. Then, repeat the sound, mimicking her as closely as you can. If she answers again, keep it going! The more you talk to your cat, the more likely she is to talk back!
Your Cat’s Vocalizations
Sudden changes in your kitty’s meowing habits can be an indication of illness. If Fluffy is usually chatty, but suddenly seems quiet, she may not feel well. The opposite is also true: kitties that don’t usually have a lot to say, but start meowing constantly, may be feeling sick.
